Long! That one word describes the main difference between European Carp rods and the traditional rod of the North American fisherman. Rods of 11'-14' are commonly used by European and U.K. anglers while in search of big Carp. A long rod offers significant advantages to the bank fisherman. Number one is casting distance. With the 11' Cabela's predator rods that I use, I can easily cast 100 yards. A long rod also gives that extra cushion effect that is needed when fighting large fish on no-stretch super braid lines. For me though, the extra leverage that the long stick gives me is the most important feature. I am able to guide fish around obstacles and snags that I can't when using the short rods. |
